President Alan McHale. Alan is a Life Member of the SAS, and emigrated from Edinburgh, Scotland in 2001. Alan is experienced in fundraising and was President of the Dunedin Scottish Arts Foundation from 2013 to 2018, producing the Dunedin Highland Games and Dunedin Celtic Music & Craft Beer Festival. Alan works to promote Scottish heritage in the Community and is working to implement strategic planning and budgeting to the Scottish American Society of Dunedin.
Vice President. Dave Stewart is a Life Member of the SAS, and has held various positions on the Board including President and Membership Chair, so he has a wealth of knowledge and experience in running a non-profit organization. Dave manages our alcohol license and bar.
Director Joan McHale. Joan is an experienced administrative manager, with over 20 years of volunteer service for Suncoast Hospice Empath Health. Joan has volunteered for Scottish organizations in Dunedin since 2008. Joan’s parents emigrated to the USA from Edinburgh, Scotland. Joan manages our treasury, marketing and media, authors the e-newsletter Rampant Rag, and is our Hall Manager.
Director Sarah Bynum. Sarah enjoys Dunedin’s thriving music and cultural events with her husband John MacDonald. With her Irish roots in Donegal and John’s upbringing in the Highlands, they have a love of Celtic music, history and researching ancestors who moved to America to pursue their dreams. Sarah supports all aspects of the Center, but especially enabling it to grow as a meeting and drop in place for locals and visitors.
Director Maggie Kiehl. Maggie is Scottish-born and has a business Scottish Cridhe, making baked goods and other Scottish treats. She is an enthusiastic member and handles Whisky Tastings and working the bar at events.
Director John MacDonald. John is a proud Scot who recently was awarded a Green Card! John is a talented bagpiper who belongs to the City of Dunedin Pipe Band. He pipes at many of our events and is a great historian of Scotland and is a wonderful asset to our board.
Director Jerry Johnson. Jerry is an enthusiastic and passionate volunteer and also has Scottish blood! You will recognize Jerry in his McLeod tartan!
