Saturday, August 8th was a great event! Over 30 people came out to have their picture taken at Dunedin’s unique statue “The Hearts” in Downtown Dunedin at the Artisan Apartment Complex on Douglas and the Pinellas Trail. We obtained permission of the Management company of Artisan Apartments and their good wishes for this endeavor to raise money for the Scottish American Society of Dunedin and promote this beautiful work of art! We are very grateful to them.
Local Dunedin photographer, Pat Smith, donated her time to take these photos and she did a wonderful job!. Pat is regularly featured in Dunedin Through the Lens on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/groups/458005371329494/. Piper and Member John MacDonald attracted a crowd with the great music on the bagpipes, and Dunedin TV came out to interview Alan for a bit. It was a very hot summer day but absolutely beautiful!
Many attached their own padlocks to this structure, which is filling up and looks fantastic. A love lock or love padlock is a lock that sweethearts lock to a bridge, fence, gate, etc. to symbolize their love. Typically their names or initials and perhaps the date are inscribed on the padlock, and its key is thrown away to symbolize unbreakable love. Since the 2000s, love locks have proliferated at an increasing number of locations worldwide.
Thank you for supporting the Scottish American Society of Dunedin! Congratulations on celebrating your relationship, friendship and love in a unique and lasting way.
